Catholic group provide support for job seekers
BEAR, Del. (CNS) -- Layoffs among older workers are taking their toll, but one out-of-work salesman is not letting the economic recession get the best of him. Rich Cook, 59, and his wife, Kim started the Seaton Job Seekers at St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Church in Bear. The group gives the unemployed the chance to network with and support each other. Group members share resources, marketing tips and insights into the corporate side of hiring. The Cooks encourage employed parishioners to help the group by sharing their expertise. On average eight to 10 people attend the Seton meetings, held every other Sunday in the church's religious education building. The Cooks realize the Seton Job Seekers is not a cure-all, but they believe the group can help make a difference. "Even if we can't help people find jobs, at least we can have them come meet other people in the same situation and make suggestions on how to help one another, (like) a support group," Rich Cook said.
