Seminar offers tips for making parishes more welcoming

BRAINTREE -- "First contact" parish staff and volunteers, or those people who most frequently interact with parish guests and parishioners, will be able to learn how to enhance their interactions during a special one-day hospitality training seminar at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted in Waltham, Feb. 27.

Entitled Entertaining Angels, the seminar is sponsored by the Office of Lifelong Faith Formation and Parish Support and run by the Catholic Hospitality Training Institute. It is open to all.

During the seminar, motivational humorist and elementary school teacher Sheri Wohlfert will discuss how first contact employees can draw in more people to their parishes by enhancing their environments and using certain words when talking to guests or parishioners.

The training will consist of four sessions throughout the day, broken up by a lunch break and time to practice any new techniques learned. It will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
