Father Ronald G. Calhoun, who has been experiencing declining health for several years, died in Uxbridge on Jan. 27, 2023. Born in Boston on March 17, 1947, he was one of the four children of the late George and Glenness (Fuller) Calhoun. An alumnus of Boston College High School, he entered archdiocesan seminaries as a member of the Class of 1972, studying first at Jamaica Plain's Cardinal O'Connell Seminary and then at Brighton's St. John.

Archbishop Humberto Medeiros ordained him to the priesthood at Holy Cross Cathedral on May 20, 1972. During the following years, he would serve in parishes of the archdiocese; as field education supervisor for seminary candidates at his alma mater, St. John; and as chaplain and counselor.

His parish assignments were at St. John the Evangelist, Hopkinton, 1972-1973, as an associate; St. John the Evangelist, Wellesley (1973-1979), associate; St. Athanasius, Reading (1980-1991), associate; Sacred Heart, Middleborough (1991-1998), pastor; St. Jeremiah, Framingham (2001-2004), pastor; St. George, Framingham (2004-2007), parochial vicar; and St. Michael, Hudson (2007-2018), pastor.

He undertook further study in pastoral counseling at Andover Newton Theological School, Newton, while also serving as chaplain of the Holy Union Sisters in Groton (1979-1980); and served for three years as a member of the Emergency Response Group (1998-2001).

One of his pursuits was pastoral counseling, which he used during his time as a supervisor of field education assignments for seminarians, in helping parishioners deal with grief, separation, and death and dying; as well as working at the North Shore Pastoral Counseling Association in Lynnfield.

Cardinal O'Malley granted him senior priest retirement status on June 1, 2018. And he lived in his senior priest years in Uxbridge.

In retirement, he had only a short time to pursue his other interests: cooking, reading, and enjoying the ocean.

Father Calhoun's funeral Mass was celebrated on Feb. 2, 2023, at St. Michael Church, Hudson. Private committal services will follow.

Father Calhoun's survivors are his three siblings: Mary, Brockton; Walter, Canton; and Gerald, Long Island, N.Y.
