At the 109th State Convention of the Massachusetts Knights of Columbus held in Danvers, Richard F. Guerriero of South Weymouth was unanimously elected the 49th Massachusetts State Deputy by the membership to lead the 46,000 members and their families. State Deputy-Elect Guerriero has been a member of the St. Francis Xavier Council of South Weymouth for 31 years.
Dick resides in Weymouth with his wife Patricia, and they are the parents of four sons, Richard, Timothy, Michael and Daniel, and grandparents of five granddaughters and one grandson. He is a computer consultant working with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Also elected to the Massachusetts State Board were Vincent Rumasuglia of Malden as State Secretary, William Donovan of Walpole as State Treasurer, Michael Baldner of Hyde Park as State Advocate and Peter Healy of Fitchburg as State Warden.
The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 in New Haven, Conn., by Father Michael J. McGivney, a parish priest at St. Mary Church. In less than 120 years, it has grown to include 1.6 million members around the world, including the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Guam. Last year alone, the Knights donated over $110 million and 55 million hours of service to charitable causes. The 46,000 Massachusetts Knights and their families donated over $1.9 million to local handicapped and mentally challenged agencies and individuals. Many Massachusetts children and their families have benefited from the grants through the Massachusetts State Council Knights of Columbus Charity Fund.
