Archbishop Williams High School recently announced the selection of Carmen M. Mariano as its first president. In this new position, Mariano will lead the role of guiding the school’s growth and future direction.
"We are extremely fortunate to have a person of Mariano's caliber assume this new role for our school. He is a skilled and accomplished educational leader and we know that his vision, his energy and his enthusiasm will translate into growth and prosperity at Archbishop Williams," said David Francis, president of the board of trustees at Archbishop Williams.
Since 2001, Mariano has worked as assistant superintendent of schools in Quincy. Prior to that he served in several positions within Quincy Public Schools including deputy superintendent for personnel, business and plant, director of personnel, assistant principal, math teacher, and varsity wrestling coach.
"Quincy and the Quincy Public Schools have been my home for a long time," Mariano said. "I didn't know a person could feel proud and sad at the same time, but I do. I am very proud to be Archbishop Williams’ first president, but very sad to be leaving the Quincy Public Schools. "
According to Mariano, among the fondest aspects of his educational resume is the time he spent as a student at Archbishop Williams, where he graduated in 1964. "Archbishop Williams gave me a sense of self and a strength of spirit - a true faith in God and myself. Archbishop Williams changed my life in a very positive way."
Of his new position, he said, "It is an honor to be entrusted with the responsibility of being the first president of my alma mater. I look forward to helping the school strengthen and enhance its position as a leading educational institution." Mariano has served on the board of trustees at Archbishop Williams for three years.
Mariano will begin his new position Aug. 6.
