Prepared remarks of Bishop-elect Peter J. Uglietto delivered at the June 30 press conference announcing his appointment as auxiliary bishop of Boston
Good Morning. Thank you all for being here with us today.
I am profoundly grateful and deeply humbled by the confidence and trust that Our Holy Father has placed in me in naming me to the Episcopacy as an Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Boston.
I thank you Cardinal Seán, for your trust and confidence. It has been a great privilege to serve in the ministry of priestly formation as rector of John XXIII National Seminary. I will miss this very challenging but gratifying work. To the seminarians and alumni, the faculty and staff, the trustees and benefactors of Blessed John I am deeply grateful for your support in this ministry over the last fourteen years.
For the Catholics of the archdiocese, the last eight years have been difficult. Cardinal Seán has given witness to Christ the Shepherd's desire to bring healing and reconciliation -- between God and his people and the people with each other. As an Auxiliary Bishop I look forward to supporting the Cardinal in the important ministry of reconciliation.
I am grateful to the priests of the Archdiocese of Boston, who so faithfully and generously serve in parishes and special ministries. These last years have been difficult for you as well. I am edified by the support you have offered one another and very much appreciate your support of my priesthood.
I am grateful to my family members living and deceased -- especially my immediate family members who are with us this morning.
I am pleased that the Cardinal has appointed me Auxiliary Bishop for the North Region. I look forward to working with the priests, religious and laity there, to serve the needs of all God's people. As we go forward to carry on the mission given us by Jesus Christ, I ask your prayers as I pray for you.
Thank you all!
