2013 High School Graduations

As the school year comes to an end, The Pilot congratulates all the members of the class of 2013 who graduated from Catholic high schools within the Archdiocese of Boston. This year's summary of graduations is presented by the date of commencement exercises.

Xaverian Brothers High School

The weather was ideal and the sun shone on the football field as commencement took place on Friday evening, May 17. The salutatory address was presented by Timothy Bosse and the valedictory by Geoffrey Martello. The Xaverian Award for overall academic achievement and school spirit was presented to Liam Driscoll. Diplomas were presented to 197 graduates.

Notre Dame Academy, Hingham

On the grounds of the school on the evening of Friday, May 17, the 160th commencement took place. The salutatory address was presented by Rebecca Mullaley and the valedictory by Caroline Lengyel. Graduate Julia MacDougall was also chosen to speak to the class. An invited speaker was Rear Admiral Margaret DeLuca, a 1975 graduate and Weymouth native. Diplomas were presented to 141 graduates.

Mt. Alvernia High School, Newton

On the front lawn of the school, the 74th commencement took place on Saturday afternoon, May 18. Delivering the salutatory address was Bridget M. Galvin and the valedictory, Isabella Kahhale. Ms. Eileen McLaughlin, principal, presented diplomas to 38 graduates.

Malden Catholic High School

The 78th commencement took place on Saturday, May 18 in the school gymnasium. Daniel A. Esposito delivered the salutatory address and Nicholas A. Holmes, the valedictory address. The prestigious Xaverian Award was presented to two graduates: Patrick S. Allen and Joseph R. Penta. Mr. Edward Tyrrell, headmaster, presented diplomas to 135 graduates.

Academy of Notre Dame, Tyngsboro

The 159th commencement took place on the grounds of the school on Sunday, May 19. An invited speaker was alumnus Kelly McCarthy Del Greco '06. Victoria Wasylak delivered the salutatory address and Margaret Rossano, the valedictory. Diplomas were presented to 52 graduates.

Boston College High School, Dorchester

The 149th commencement took place on Sunday, May 19 in McNiece Pavilion. The welcoming address was presented by graduate Daniel J. Dougherty and the student address by David J. Coletti. An invited speaker addressing the class was Jeremiah F. York '63. Prior to awarding diplomas to the 335 graduates, golden jubilee diplomas were presented to a large number of graduates from the class of 1963.

St. John's Prep, Danvers

The 103rd commencement took place on Sunday morning, May 19 at Ryken Field. Graduates of the Class of 1963 greeted the class of 2013 as they arrived. Addressing their classmates was senior class speaker Nathaniel Torto and valedictorian, O'Neil Danis. The Xaverian Award was presented to Joseph Flynn. Diplomas were presented to 300 graduates.

Archbishop Williams High School, Braintree

The 61st commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 23. An invited speaker was new president and alumnus Dennis M. Duggan '70. The salutatory address was presented by Richard Chaudhary and the valedictory by Periklis Sarakiniotis. Diplomas were presented to 126 graduates.

Cardinal Spellman High School, Brockton

The 52nd commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 23 in the school auditorium. Members of the class of 1963 attended. Leonard Paoletta III delivered the salutatory address and Danielle Connolly, the valedictory address. Mr. Paul Kelly, completing his first year as principal, presented diplomas to 144 graduates.

Catholic Memorial High School, West Roxbury

The 53rd commencement took place on Thursday afternoon, May 23 at Holy Name Church. Delivering the salutatory address was Cody Karjadi and the valedictory, John R. Allaire. Six in the class are sons of alumni. Diplomas were presented to 123 graduates.

Elizabeth Seton Academy, Dorchester

The 9th commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 23 at St. Gregory Church. Hoang Ngan Hong Tran delivered the valedictory address. Diplomas were presented to 25 graduates. Jana M. Karp, the founder of Boston Youth Sanctuary also addressed the graduates.

Fontbonne Academy, Milton

The 56th commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 23 on the grounds of the school under a tent erected for the happy occasion. Addressing their classmates was class president Colleen MacDonald, Eliza McDonald and Maretta Morovitz. Members of the Class of 1963 attended too. Diplomas were presented to 72 graduates.

Matignon High School, Cambridge

Graduation took place on Thursday evening, May 23 in the school assembly hall. Julia Croxen delivered the salutatory address and Irene Wong, the valedictory. Members of the class of 1963 attended. Diplomas were presented to 114 graduates.

Pope John XXIII High School, Everett

Commencement took place on Thursday evening, May 23 in the school assembly hall. David Angelo delivered the salutatory address and Alexandra Miller-Browne, the valedictory. Head of School Dr. Thomas Ryan presented diplomas to 70 graduates.

St. Mary High School, Lynn

The Memorial Auditorium at Lynn City Hall was the setting for the 131st commencement on Thursday evening, May 23. Delivering the valedictory address was Haley Anne Pelletier. The class salutatorian was Meghan McCarthy. Mr. Carl DiMaiti, principal, presented diplomas to 137 graduates.

Bishop Fenwick High School, Peabody

The 51st commencement took place on Friday evening, May 24. The salutatory address was presented by Monica Poeske and the valedictory by Emily Estabrook. Sister Catherine Fleming, principal, presented diplomas to 140 graduates.

Central Catholic High School, Lawrence

The 75th commencement took place on Friday evening, May 24 in the school's Memorial Gymnasium. Emily Round delivered the salutatory address and Simon Serrano, the valedictory address. Diplomas were presented to 314 graduates.

Marian High School, Framingham

The 54th commencement took place on Friday evening, May 24. Thirteen members of the Class of 1963 attended and were presented golden jubilee diplomas. An invited speaker was alumnus Michael Cassidy '90. Colleen Fitzpatrick delivered the salutatory address and Hillary Waite, the valedictory. Diplomas were presented to 86 graduates.

Lowell Catholic High School

St. Mary Church in Chelmsford was the setting for the 24th commencement on Friday evening, May 24. Delivering the salutatory address was Kenneth Pham and the valedictory, Lauren Jendrock. Diplomas were presented to 88 graduates.

Presentation of Mary Academy, Methuen

The 52nd commencement and the first coed in the school's half century existence took place on Friday, May 24 at the Dupre Sports and Art Center. Margaret Tucker delivered the salutatory address and Gina Amaral, the valedictory. Diplomas were presented to 32 graduates.

St. Clement High School, Medford

Graduation took place on Friday evening, May 24 at St. Clement Church. An invited speaker was alumnus Msgr. Paul V. Garrity '65 and pastor of St. Catherine Parish in Norwood. Roderick Brathwaite delivered the salutatory address and Tyler Boudrias, the valedictory. Diplomas were presented to 33 graduates.

Sacred Heart High School, Kingston

Graduation took place on Friday evening, May 24. An invited speaker was former faculty member Sister Francesca O'Regan. Sophia Pizzi delivered the salutatory address and Jeffrey Millman, the valedictory. Diplomas were presented to 52 graduates.

Arlington Catholic High School, Arlington

The Dana Athletic Center on the campus of Bentley University in Waltham was the setting for graduation on Friday afternoon, May 24. The salutatory address was presented by Carolina Elices and the valedictory by Jia Liang. An invited speaker was Carole Brennan, a member of the Class of 1973. Steve Biagioni, principal, presented diplomas to 182 graduates.

Austin Preparatory School, Reading

The 48th commencement took place on Saturday, June 1. The salutatory address was presented by Holly Robinson and the valedictory by Dana Chaykovsky. Addressing the class and presenting diplomas to the 121 graduates was retiring headmaster Paul J. Moran whose association with the school has spanned the past 32 years.

Ursuline Academy, Dedham

On the grounds of the school, graduation took place on Sunday afternoon, June 2. This year there were two valedictorians: Chantal Chammas and Meghan Grela. Mary Jo Keaney, principal, presented diplomas to 65 graduates.

St. Joseph Preparatory High School, Brighton

Commencement for the first class to complete the first year at the school formed out of the previous Mt. St. Joseph Academy and Trinity Catholic took place on Tuesday evening, June 4 at the Robsham Theatre at Boston College. Salutatory addresses were presented by Alicia McCormick and Jacqueline Chong. The valedictory address was given by Mary Katherine Marino. An invited speaker was the Rev. Liz Walker. Diplomas were presented to 92 graduates by Head of School Thomas E. Nunan Jr.

Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Newton

On the grounds of the school under a tent erected for the occasion, the 133rd commencement took place on Thursday morning, June 6. Delivering the salutatory address was Kathryn Addonizio and the valedictory, Emily Thompson. An invited speaker was alumnus Elizabeth Blecharczyk M.D. '01. Sister Barbara Rogers, headmistress, presented diplomas to 50 graduates.

St. Sebastian's School, Needham

The 69th commencement took place at St. Bartholomew Church on Thursday morning, June 6. Delivering the salutatory address was Kenneth S. Chen and the valedictory, Thayer D. Wade. Delivering the commencement address was Douglas A. Kingsley, a member of the trustees. Diplomas were presented to 67 graduates.

Cathedral High School, Boston

The 83rd commencement took place on Saturday morning, June 8 at Holy Cross Cathedral. Members of the Class of 1963 attended. The salutatory address was presented by Alexandra Rosa and the valedictory by Laura Kay Demezieux. Mr. Robert McGurrin, principal, presented diplomas to 46 graduates.

Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School, Lawrence

The sixth commencement took place on Saturday morning, June 8 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lawrence. The salutatory address was presented by Ashia Miller and the valedictory by Mellisa Varner. Sister Mary Murphy, president, presented diplomas to 63 graduates.

Cristo Rey Boston High School, Dorchester

The third commencement took place on Friday afternoon, June 14 at the Strand Theatre in Dorchester. The commencement also marked the graduation of the last class of students that began their studies at North Cambridge Catholic High. The salutatory address was presented by Misa Nguyen and the valedictory by Rebecca Rojas. An invited speaker was Dean Vincent D. Rougeau from Boston College School of Law. Outgoing principal Father Jose Medina presented diplomas to 39 graduates.
