BOSTON -- A former pastor at Holy Trinity Parish in Lawrence has been accused of sexual misconduct with a minor while he was teacher in Baltimore in the 1970s.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore announced charges against Father Michael Kolodziej, OFM Conv., Nov. 7, stemming from his assignment as a teacher at Archbishop Curley High School from 1975 until 1979. A former student from this time period said he was abused on several occasions while Father Kolodziej wrestled him.

Father Kolodziej served as pastor at Holy Trinity from 1988 through 1991. The parish was closed in 2004. A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Boston said no allegations of abuse have been received related to his time in Lawrence.

The order has suspended Father Kolodziej from all public ministry and the Archbishop of Baltimore has withdrawn Father Kolodziej's faculties to function as a priest in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Archbishop Curley High School reported the allegation immediately to authorities, and the police were promptly informed; the school, the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore -- which owns Archbishop Curley High School -- are cooperating fully with authorities.

Father Kolodziej, age 69, was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Buffalo in 1970 and entered the Franciscan order in 1974. Before coming to Lawrence, he served in Maryland and New York State. He also served as rector at St. Stanislaus Basilica in Chicopee, Mass. from 1991-2001, as Minister Provincial of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual in Ellicott City, Md. from 2001-2010, and as parochial vicar at St. Philip Benizi Parish in Jonesboro, Ga. from 2010 until his recent suspension.
