New reconfiguration decree signed

Archbishop Seán P. O’Malley signed a decree on Feb. 9 confirming the suppression of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Stoughton on Feb. 27 at 2:00 p.m.

The territory of the parish will become the territory of St. James Parish in Stoughton, and the canonical registers will be transferred there as well. The goods and obligations of Our Lady of the Rosary will become the goods and obligations of the Archdiocese of Boston.

The decree cites “deteriorating condition” of Our Lady of the Rosary’s parish facilities and proximity to St. James as reasons for closure. When parish closures were announced in May 2004, St. James had been scheduled to close and Our Lady of the Rosary to remain open.
