Notre Dame Academy marks centennial year in Tyngsborough
As Academy of Notre Dame (NDA) embarks on the 100th anniversary year of our campus in Tyngsborough, we are filled with gratitude for the rich history and legacy of our school, and we look forward to a vibrant future. We are thankful for the students and families who have chosen NDA as their school home over the years, and the faculty, staff, and alumni who have contributed so much time and effort to make NDA the dynamic, spirited community it is today.
Founded in 1854 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, Academy of Notre Dame offers a values-based education for pre-K to 12th grade with a focus on cultivating the whole person through a curriculum rooted in spiritual formation and academic excellence. "We nurture a belief in the goodness of God and the dignity of each person. We are committed to community-building, diversity, global justice and service to those in need."
The Hallmarks of our Notre Dame de Namur learning community continue to guide us every step of the way:
-- Hallmark 1: We proclaim by our lives even more than by our words that God is good.
- Hallmark 2: We honor the dignity and sacredness of each person.
- Hallmark 3: We educate for and act on behalf of justice, peace and care for all creation.
- Hallmark 4: We commit ourselves to community service.
- Hallmark 5: We embrace the gift of diversity.
- Hallmark 6: We create community among those with whom we work and with those we serve.
- Hallmark 7: We develop holistic learning communities, which educate for life.
The year 2027 marks the anniversary of our arrival on the 200+ acre campus, where just as the Sisters of Namur intended, students enjoy a rigorous academic experience balanced with opportunities for spiritual growth and transformation. Students in the Early Years program (three- to five-year-olds) enjoy a foundational academic and social emotional learning experience that includes specials in STEM, world languages, physical education, and the arts. In our Lower School (grades one to five), our faculty continue to nurture those academic and social skills as students come to discover their unique gifts in a small class environment.
In Middle School, students are offered challenging course work in humanities, math, and science classes with hands-on, project-based learning that engages students to think critically, problem solve, and hone skills. Character formation for our sixth-eighth grade students is nurtured in our culturally diverse learning environment with abundant community service opportunities. Finally, the Upper School offers a full range of academic classes in addition to art, music, and physical education. For Lower, Middle, and Upper school learners, sports and extracurricular activities abound as NDA continues to develop the whole child.
In addition to theology coursework starting in the sixth grade and monthly Mass for all, our Director of Campus Ministry and Community Engagement Jamie Deignan provides leadership opportunities for students to step outside themselves and embody the spirit of giving through the Seed of Service Club. This student-led club plans food and clothing drives and collections for area service agencies, coordinates volunteers for school events, volunteers at Cor Unum meal center monthly, makes sandwiches for the homeless and advocates for social justice issues, and more.
With over 100 hours of college and career counseling, our graduates go on to bring that heart of service and respect for the dignity of all to post-secondary opportunities across the country and abroad. NDA has further developed a partnership with Emmanuel College in Boston, where eligible students receive guaranteed admission and scholarships.
In the spirit of growth and renewal and under the direction of our new Head of School Dr. Micheal Orlando, we have witnessed many changes as we prepare for the coming school year. From fresh paint in our hallways and classrooms to new desks, new lockers and playground equipment, NDA is reinvigorated and well-prepared to welcome students for the coming school year and beyond.
An education at NDA carries a value well-beyond the high school years. NDA alumni enjoy a network that is over 4,000 strong, living and working in 40 states and eight countries. They are artists, athletes, educators, entrepreneurs, scholars, and philanthropists with skills and habits to meet the challenges of living in a global society.
The question remains where will an education at NDA take you? Families are invited to join us for our Fall Open House events on Sept. 26 and Oct. 17, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Come discover what makes NDA truly unique.
