Archdiocesan parishes affected by Hurricane Sandy

BRAINTREE -- At the time of this reporting, nine parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston had reported damage related to Hurricane Sandy to the archdiocesan Office of Risk Management.

"The damage ranges from fallen trees to roof damage. We are working closely with parish personnel to ensure that repairs are done as quickly as possible," said W. Kent Wilkins, claims manager for the archdiocese.

Corpus Christi-St. Bernard Parish and Our Lady Help of Christians in Newton, Patronage of St. Joseph Rectory in Somerville, Holy Family Parish in Amesbury, St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Lawrence, Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in South Boston, St. James Parish in Haverhill, St. Stephen Parish in Framingham, and St. Joseph Parish in Boston all reported damage after the storm.

Father Dan O'Connell, pastor at St. Joseph Parish, said the archdiocese provided an emergency checklist with phone numbers to call in the event of damage. He said it helped him address the need for repairs quickly, after the slate roof of the church lost tiles to the strong winds.

"It was helpful just to have numbers in order. Risk management did a good job in getting things in order in case anything like this did happen," Father O' Connell said.
