Marlboro residents and Maryknoll Lay Missioners Susan Marble Cuthbert and Evan Cuthbert, along with their children, 5-year-old Mary and 2-year-old Rose, will travel to live and work among the poor in the Andean region of Bolivia in January.

The couple, who previously served as Jesuit volunteers in Peru in the early 1990s, continue to pursue overseas mission work as part of the Maryknoll Mission Association of the Faithful. They are among nine lay missioners departing for the developing regions of Africa, Asia and Latin America early next year.

During a mission sending ceremony on Dec. 11 at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Chapel at the Maryknoll Society Center in Ossining, N.Y., the Cuthberts received their mission crosses and formal assignments to Peru. They will take a Spanish refresher course at the Maryknoll Language Institute in Cochabamba, Bolivia, before moving to their mission placement.

Susan Cuthbert, 37, is a Boston College graduate and has worked as a recruitment coordinator for the Maryknoll Lay Missioners since 1997. Evan Cuthbert, 38, a Bedford native and a BC graduate as well, has served as a campus minister at Boston College and as a youth minister at St. Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury.
