BRIGHTON — Caritas Christi Health Care System announced on Aug. 24 the formation of a search committee to hire a new chief executive officer. The committee will be headed by John A. Kaneb, chairman of HP Hood LLC. (see related statement by Mr. Kaneb)

Six members of the 15-person committee will also conduct a comprehensive analysis of Caritas’ position in the New England health care market. Those members, including Kaneb, will work with Chicago-based Navigant Consulting, Inc., an independent consulting firm.

The search committee is made up of representatives from both the business and health care communities, Caritas’ board of trustees and leadership of the Archdiocese of Boston.

The members are Kenneth F. MacDonnell, Thomas Martin, Kevin Phelan, James J. Karam, Daniel Coleman, Nicholaos Madias, George L. Tully, III, Mary Ryan, Frances X. Hogan, James P. McDonough, Father Bryan Hehir, Father Nicholas Sannella, Mary Lou Boll and Stanley J. Lukowski.

Caritas Christi’s current interim president is John B. Chessare who was appointed May 25 after the previous president, Dr. Robert Haddad, resigned in the face of accusations of sexual harassment.

Chessare is currently the president of Caritas Norwood Hospital and senior vice president for quality and patient safety of the Caritas Christi Health Care System.
