Social Justice Conference to be held at BC High

The second annual “Moving Towards the Light” Social Justice Conference will be held on April 28 at Boston College High School. At the conference, area Catholics will discuss the issue of bringing justice and peace to parish life.

Through a series of workshops and plenary sessions, conference attendees will be able to deepen their understanding of the Biblical and papal teachings regarding the centrality of social mission to a faith-filled following of Christ. 

In the words of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, “the values of the Church based social teachings must not be treated as tangential or optional. They must be a core part of teachings and formation. Without our social teachings, schools, catechetical programs, and other formation programs would be offering an incomplete presentation of our Catholic tradition.” 

Theologian and chairman of the theology department at Boston College, Father Kenneth R. Himes, OFM, will be the keynote speaker.

Workshop topics will include prison ministry, successful parish outreach programs, creative youth service programs, immigration, work and economics, and peace and catechetical instruction.

The “Moving Towards the Light” Social Justice Conference is a collaborative effort of many archdiocesan offices, the Labor Guild, and Boston College. It is hoped that the interactions from the conference will help build a vibrant archdiocesan presence to meet the pressing needs of the most vulnerable.
