BCTV series nominated for regional Emmy
The Boston Catholic Television (BCTV) series “Sacred Space” hosted by Father Christopher Coyne, Cabinet Secretary for Public Relations in the Archdiocese of Boston and faculty member at St. John’s Seminary, has been nominated for a regional Emmy Award. The series aired on BCTV from September 2003 until March 2004.
“We are very pleased to have been nominated for a regional Emmy for ‘Sacred Space,’” commented Msgr. Paul McInerney, director of BCTV. “Father Coyne brings a great depth of knowledge and expertise to the subject of worship spaces. Peter Kaminski, the producer and editor of the program, once again has exhibited his expertise and creativity. It is an honor to be nominated.”
The 13-part series examined how “various religions use space in order to worship God, to pray and offer glory to the Lord,” according to Father Coyne.
By travelling throughout New England and interviewing clergy members, architects and various members of different religious communities, Father Coyne brought viewers the stories behind several houses of worship. To find the “sacred spaces” examined in the series, Father Coyne and the BCTV production staff traveled to Catholic churches throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine; Jewish temples in Brookline and Newton; and the Islamic Center of Rhode Island.
‘‘Sacred Space’’ is the third series Father Coyne has hosted for BCTV and is the sequel to “Worship, Architecture and the Arts,” in which Father Coyne explored the correlation between the physical world and spiritual worship.
‘‘Sacred Space’’ is one of four programs nominated by the Boston/New England Chapter of the National Television Academy in the category of Interview/Discussion Program. This is BCTV’s third New England Emmy Award nomination since 2000. The award ceremony will be held on May 2.
